First Day Hike at John D McArthur Beach State Park
MacArthur Beach State Park will sponsor a free, ranger-led hike at 10:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day as part of America’s State Parks “First Day Hikes” initiative in all 50 states. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and learn about South Florida ecosystems while welcoming the New Year with friends and family. MacArthur Beach State Park has a variety of beautiful settings for year-round outdoor recreation, and the First Day Hike will offer an opportunity to explore the unique natural and cultural aspects of the park. Visitors can listen to birds, breathe in the fresh air, discover wildlife, and feel the wind, the warmth of the sun and even the sand between their toes.
The hike will be approximately 1.75 miles long walking on wooden boardwalks, dirt trails and along the beach. The degree of difficulty is moderate. Trails are ADA-accessible. Please call in advance if a beach wheelchair is needed (561-624-6950). Plan to wear walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray.
