A tropical oasis in the backyard

Here in South Florida the summer is nearly year round giving residents plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. And there is nothing quite like having your own backyard retreat. We have been working on creating ours and chose to use native plants that attract birds and butterflies. We planted small and medium-size trees which brought the temperature of our backyard down to a comfortable level even on some of the hottest days. Next on the list – a water feature
Coastal Living asked Miami landscape architect, Raymond Jungles, for some tips on creating a low-fuss tropical backyard spaces. Some suggestions include a canopy of palm trees towering over a layer of ground cover and bromeliads, natural regional stone, and lots of calming green in different shades and textures.
